This year's action month, themed "Youth Join Hands to Build New-style Rural Areas", was attended by the city’s leaders and more than 2,000 youth union members in the city.
Speaking at the event, the deputy PM emphasised that over the past 10 years, the action month has provided a vast space and healthy environment for youngsters to represent their enthusiasm and join volunteer activities.
Deputy PM Hue praised the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) for selecting the 2017 action month’s theme, which helped realise the Secretariat’s directive on enhancing the Party’s leadership on the "The Whole People United to Build New-Style Rural Areas" campaign.
He asked that activities to be organised during the action month create added value for the community while attracting the full participation of youth union members.
This year’s action month focuses on popularising the glorious tradition of the HCYU and Vietnamese youth, holding activities encouraging youth to build new style rural areas, protect the environment, care for children and ensure social affairs.
At the launching ceremony, the HCYU presented gifts worth 50 million VND in total to policy beneficiary families and 30 bicycles to poor students and 20 scholarships to underprivileged children of ethnic minority groups in Dong Thap province.
The action month was also observed in HCM City on the same day, attracting over 1,000 youth union members.
