Vietnam ministry announces violations found at self-claimed-Korean-brand Mumuso

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)`s announcement, 99.3% or 2,257 out of the total 2,273 products sold by Mumuso Vietnam were imported from China.

The MoIT on July 13 announced violations found at Mumuso Vietnam with regard to the origin and brand of the company's products, following the ministry's conclusions of its investigation into the company's operations between 2016 and May 2018.

The investigation found signs of legal violations as the company had provided inaccurate and misleading information to customers, VnEconomy.vn cited the MoIT as saying.

Notably, 99.3% or 2,257 out of the total 2,273 products sold by Mumuso Vietnam were imported from China.

Currently, customers are informed that Mumuso's products originated from South Korea, however, the company was unable to provide documents clarifying the accuracy of the information during the MoIT's investigation, especially those relating to the origins of products and production technologies, the ministry said.

In addition, the company was found violating regulations on competition as its advertisements caused misunderstanding about the origin of their products, creating unfair competition. Mumuso Vietnam advertises publicly in its store chain with the words Mumuso and Korea, implying to customers its products and brand are from South Korea.

The investigation's results also revealed that Mumuso violated legal regulations on goods labelling. Some products have labels in foreign languages believed to be Korean and sub-labels in Vietnamese. However, the contents did not match import documents, according to the minsitry.

Moreover, MUMUSOKR trademark was registered by MUMUSOKR Company Limited at the address of 601, 47 Sejongdaero 23-gil, Jongro-gu, Seoul, South Korea, under the authorization of Mumuso Shanghai.

Currently, Mumuso Shanghai has the rights to use and manage the MUMUSOKR trademark worldwide. However, the Mumuso brand was not available in South Korea, informed the ministry.

After debuting in the Vietnamese market in December 2016, Mumuso has opened 27 stores nationwide, offering thousands of products in five aspects including beauty, healthcare, fashion accessories, office and home appliances with prices from only VND22,000 (US$1), it claims.
