The signed documents mainly focus on the fields of renewable energy, semiconductor technology, water and waste treatment such as the construction of Tra Vinh wind power farm with total capacity of 48 megawatts, an RFID chip manufacturing plant and the world’s first water and chemicals free dyeing factory in Ho Chi Minh city, a plastic waste treatment plant project in Phu Quoc and a sustainable and green food industrial park in the Mekong River delta.
At the signing ceremony, the Netherlands’ Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen valued the business environment in Vietnam and its capacity of implementing the public-private partnership model, after her meeting with leaders of Hanoi, Danang, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh city.
She also appreciated the development of circular economy in the southern economic hub Ho Chi Minh City.
The signing ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 11 after Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte had finished his working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and Investment Protection Agreement, which are expected to be signed and approved soon, in promoting mutual trade and investment as well as boosting trade between Vietnam and other EU countries, especially the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is currently the second biggest trading partner of Vietnam with bilateral turnover in 2018 reaching USD$7.8 billion and also the biggest EU-member investor in Vietnam. The two countries also agreed to boost cooperation in terms of agriculture, marine economy, circular economy and smart cities.
