Vietnam urged to join in Canada's carbon pricing initiative

Canada hopes that Vietnam will consider participating in the Carbon Pricing Initiative, Canada's Ambassador for Climate Change Catherine Stewart told Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, at a meeting on June 14.
This initiative is proposed by the Government of Canada to provide a forum for countries that have established carbon markets, as well as countries interested in doing so, to share experiences, learn from experience, and enhance technical assistance, with the goal of putting a price on 60% of global carbon emissions by 2030.
Vinacomin to supply 1.2 million tons of coal to power plants
Vietnam's State-owned mining company (Vinacomin) will supply an additional 1.2 million tons of coal to thermal power plants in the second half of this year, bringing the total to nearly 18.75 million tons. Most of the increase will go to EVN's power plants, with the remainder going to other power generators. With the aim of providing an additional 10,000 tons per month to EVN's power plants, Vinacomin is taking all possible measures to ensure the demand is met.
In the first half of this year, nearly 21 million tons of coal were delivered to thermal power plants, representing 54.5% of the contract. Coal supply for power generation is expected to reach approximately 39.7 million tons in 2023, up 15% from 2022.

Four international exhibitions, Paper Vietnam, Rubber and Tyre Vietnam, Coatings Expo Vietnam, and Plastech Vietnam, are underway in Ho Chi Minh City until June 16, with more than 8,000 domestic and foreign visitors expected.
The three-day event has attracted 470 domestic and foreign companies, including Gambini and Siliconi from Italy, Fan Separator and Wilhelm Niemann from Germany, and YKC, ELE Shanghai, SILOK and Jiangsu General Science from China, among others. It is expected to become an international trade destination and contribute to opening up business cooperation opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises in the coming period.
Oerol Festival play blends philosophy and traditional Vietnamese music
Veenfabrik Theatre wowed audiences at the Oerol Festival in the Netherlands with their modern play "Wereld van Wie?" (World of Whom?), which seamlessly blended philosophical dialogues with traditional Vietnamese music. The story follows the life of Phi Nguyen, a Vietnamese boy who immigrated to the Netherlands at a young age.
The theater enlisted the help of Vietnamese composer Ngo Hong Quang to provide authentic Vietnamese music and customs for the production. The theater attracted nearly 10,000 people, many of whom expressed a newfound connection to Vietnam. The Oerol Festival runs from June 9-18 and features 40 arts troupes from across the European country.
