Vietnam helps Laos to conduct 15 organ transplants
The Vietnamese Military Medical Academy helped the Lao military medicine conduct 15 kidney transplants by July 2024. Speaking at the second anniversary of cooperation between the two sides in Vientiane, Laos, on August 23, Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Rector of the Vietnamese academy, confirmed that the success of the kidney transplants is not only a great achievement for the Lao medical sector but also shows the capacity of Vietnamese military doctors.
Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in number of busiest air routes

Vietnam's Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route is the busiest domestic route in Southeast Asia with 949,250 seats in August 2024, according to Official Airline Guide (OAG) Aviation. In addition, Danang-Ho Chi Minh City ranks fifth with 427,780 seats and Danang-Hanoi ranks seventh with 342,679 seats. These three routes highlight Vietnam's dominance in the region's top 10 busiest domestic routes.
Oktoberfest 2024 scheduled to run in September and October
Oktoberfest 2024, a German cultural and culinary event, will take place in Hanoi from September 26 to 28. First held in Vietnam in 1992, the festival will also be staged in the central city of Danang (October 4) and Ho Chi Minh City (October 10-12). Last year, the event attracted around 10,500 visitors, making it the largest German festival in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam's mobile Internet speed up 1.4 times in four months
Mobile Internet speed in Vietnam increased by 1.4 times in July compared to March, with uploads getting 1.2 times faster, according to the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Data from the VNNIC shows that the average mobile broadband download speed in Vietnam reached 54.34 Mbps in July while the average mobile broadband upload speed was 21.19 Mbps. The average mobile download speed in July was up 40% from March to 54.34 Mbps in July.
Vietnam's Paralympic team departs for Paris 2024
Vietnam's Paralympic team left Ho Chi Minh City on August 23 for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The team consists of 14 members, including seven athletes competing in powerlifting, swimming, and athletics, with strong medal hopes in powerlifting, particularly from Le Van Cong. The Games, which run from August 20 to September 9, will have their opening ceremony on August 28 in Paris.
Vietnam crowned four new beauty queens in August
Vietnam crowned four new beauty queens in August. Hoac Thi Huyen from Bac Giang was crowned Miss Business Peace 2024 on August 23. Earlier, Nguyen Phuong Anh was crowned Miss Tourism Vietnam Essence 2024 on August 14, while Vo Le Que Anh was crowned Miss Grand Vietnam 2024, and Pham Thi Ngoc Quynh was named Miss Tourism Vietnam 2024 on August 3.
Hue starts construction of US$260 million engine plant
Kim Long Motor Hue, in partnership with China's YUCHAI, began construction of a US$260 million automotive engine manufacturing plant in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 23. The plant, which is expected to be operational in Q2/2025, will initially produce over 12,000 engines annually, focusing on diesel, CNG, and electric engines for both domestic and export markets.
