Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to South Korea Lee Chang Kun signed an agreement with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) on January 30 to establish an office to promote Vietnamese tourism in the host nation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Director General of VNAT Ha Van Sieu said that the agreement aims to open a new channel for promoting tourism activities of Vietnam. He also hoped Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to South Korea Lee Chang Kun will bring into full play his role.
Under the agreement, the VNAT and the ambassador will provide information about Vietnam’s tourism to Korean tourists, organize tours to Vietnam, and help Vietnamese agencies and businesses host tourism promotion events in South Korea.
The agreement will be effective until December 31, 2020.

Lee Chang Kun was born in 1958 in Seoul. He is the 31st generation descendant of Vietnamese King Ly Thai To and the 26th generation descendant of Prince Ly Long Tuong, who immigrated to South Korea in the 13th century.
In 1994, he represented the Ly Hoa Son clan in South Korea in returning to Vietnam and visiting his hometown in Dinh Bang ward, Tu Son town, the northern province of Bac Ninh. Six years later, he and his family received Vietnamese citizenship. He became a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee in September 2014.
Lee Chang Kun was appointed as the Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador for the three year tenure between 2017 and 2020.
The number of Korean tourists to Vietnam in January 2019 is estimated at 389,000, a 23% increase from the same period last year. South Korea surpassed China to become the largest source of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the month.
