Vietnam, Poland share experience in welfare

Vietnamese and Polish experts shared experience in social welfare and charity-related policies during a workshop in Hanoi on November 25.

The event was held by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology under the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS).
Participants compared the two countries’ legal documents relating to social welfare and charitable activities, natural disaster relief, poverty reduction, and assistance to vulnerable groups – including women, children, the elderly, emigrants, and people with fatal diseases like HIV/AIDS.

They also talked about communication campaigns and voluntary activities in education, training, culture, art and environment.
Polish experts shared that social enterprises are set up to support the vulnerable group such as the unemployed, the handicapped, the elderly and children.
Director of the VASS’s Institute of Sociology Dang Nguyen Anh said the Poland’s experience in the field is helpful for Vietnam in devising more effective policies to promote charitable activities.
He said many Vietnamese individuals, businesses, schools and organisations have been actively engaged in charitable activities such as raising money to support people in flood-hit areas.
He suggested diversifying charity channels and improving the legal framework for activities in the field.
