Vietnam resumes Indian agricultural goods imports

Vietnam will return India-imported batches of agricultural products infected with beetles and allow the imports of those not infected, according to the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD) on Monday.

The decision was made following a meeting held recently between the MARD and Indian embassy in Vietnam.
Accordingly, Vietnam will adjust its decision on suspension of the import of five agricultural commodities from India. Following which, Vietnam will return India-imported batches of agricultural products infected with beetles and allow the import of those not infected.
In turn, India will resume the imports of Vietnamese black pepper, cassava, cinnamon and dragon fruits.
Earlier on March 1, Vietnam suspended imports of peanuts, cassia seeds, cocoa seeds, French bean seeds and tamarind from India due to high risk of Caryedon serratus (Olivier) infection.
On March 7, India also suspended imports of some Vietnamese agricultural products.
On March 15, Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade sent a diplomatic note to India requesting the country follow international practices and early lift its suspension of the imports of some Vietnamese products.
