Cars from Thailand and Indonesia accounted for 93% of total cars imported to Vietnam over the last week.
Vietnam imported 12,400 cars as of November, up 43.5% from the 7,000 cars imported in the same period last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC).
Over the last week, Vietnam imported 3,731 cars worth US$79.8 million, up 8.6% in quantity week-on-week. Of the total, cars bought from Thailand and Indonesia accounted for 93% of total cars imported to Vietnam, reaching 2,698 units from Thailand and 765 from Indonesia. Vietnam also imported cars from other markets such as Mexico, China and the UK, among others.
Under-nine-seat cars made up the largest proportion from November 23 to November 29 with 1,969 units worth US$41 million, contributing 52.8% of the total imported volume, followed by trucks with 1,616 units worth US$34 million, while the remaining were other types of motorized vehicles.
Customs statistics also showed that US$58.5 million worth of car accessories and parts were imported to Vietnam over the last week, down 11.9% week-on-week. Suppliers of those products were mainly from South Korea with US$16.5 million, Japan US$11.9 million, Thailand US$8.1 million, China US$6.5 million, Germany US$5 million, and Indonesia US$3.9 million.
Overall, accessories and parts from these six countries accounted for 88.6% of total imported value in the week.
