Vietnam targets $65-billion agri-forestry-fishery exports this year

Vietnam’s agri-forestry-fishery exports hit $33.5 billion in the first half (H1) of this year, making the full-year target possible.

THE HANOI TIMES — To stay on track toward its ambitious US$65 billion target, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has recently launched a comprehensive action plan focused on market expansion, product diversification, and maximizing the benefits of the 17 free trade agreements Vietnam has signed.

The ministry has urged agencies and border provinces in the north to closely monitor the circulation of goods and prevent congestion at border crossings with China to ensure export timelines in the final months of the year.

At the same time, it maintains momentum in traditional markets while adding value-added product lines and supporting those of strong growth potential, such as coffee, cashews, seafood, and specialty fruits to meet the requirements of the US, the European Union (EU), and China.

Emerging markets in the Middle East, ASEAN, and South America will also be prioritized for further trade promotion.

The ministry has asked localities to prepare high-quality raw material zones, establish planting area codes, and expand packaging facilities to secure export supply chains. Meanwhile, businesses are urged to diversify markets and increase product value to remain competitive amid high logistics costs and volatile tariff regimes.

Nevertheless, the ministry views 2025 as a pivotal year for Vietnam’s five-year socioeconomic and agricultural development plans (2021–2025). This lays the groundwork for the nation’s long-term vision under the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy (2021–2030).
