Vietnam will boost the deeper international integration in the new stage of development, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said at a conference held in Hanoi on August 20 to mark 70 years of Vietnam’s diplomacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a conference "Vietnam's diplomacy: 70 years of development and future-oriented" in Hanoi on August 20.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh attended the event.
Addressing the seminar, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh said that after the success of the August Revolution, Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs was formally established on August 28, 1945.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also honoured to be led by President Ho Chi Minh as the first Foreign Minister.
The ministry has been built with the basis of the ideological foundation of President Ho Chi Minh, which emphasizes the spirit of "making friends with all countries and causing no animosity with anyone".
Vietnam always remembers the huge support of the international community to its national liberation, development and integration and hopes to receive more global assistance to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond, he added.
The Deputy PM stressed that in the new stage of development, Vietnam will make greater efforts to deepen its external relations, primarily with key partners and traditional friends.
In multilateral diplomacy, Vietnam continues to be a proactive and responsible ASEAN member and simultaneously participate in other multilateral mechanisms, first and foremost the United Nations, he said.
At the seminar, Chinese Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong spoke of the Vietnamese diplomacy sector’s efforts in promoting its important role in building a socialist country of independence, self-reliance and happiness.
According to US Ambassador Ted Osius, the Vietnamese diplomacy always pursues fundamental principles on international relations such as respecting international law, respecting the interests of Vietnam and partners as well as maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The speeches at the conference showed clearly the principal role and strength of political and cultural diplomacy, adding that Vietnamese diplomacy has been expanded and deepen cooperation between the country with nations and territories around the world.
Participants also highlighted the role of Vietnam in the establishment of the ASEAN Community as well as recognised the country’s capacity to cooperate with partners to jointly address global challenges.
