Vietnam to mobilize 100 top AI experts for national strategy

The initiative serves as an action plan to make artificial intelligence (AI) a core technology pillar for Vietnam over the next decade.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Ministry of Science and Technology has unveiled a plan to assemble a team of 100 leading AI experts to develop an independent, human-centric AI ecosystem in the country.

These experts will be responsible for various strategic tasks under the recently released national plan, including policy formulation, technical standard-setting, research, training, and the application of AI in critical sectors.

The plan also calls for creating a national database of AI experts and their role in drafting Law on the Digital Technology Industry, particularly the sections related to AI governance.

The experts will also contribute to the development of standards, technical regulations, and legal frameworks tailored to AI with an aim to supports innovation and public safety.

Moreover, select experts will be commissioned to develop a national, AI-powered bioinformatics data platform designed to support biotechnology research and development (R&D) and commercialization in Vietnam.

Another priority is developing “Make in Vietnam” AI models across domains such as language processing, image recognition, audio analysis, and data management.

According to the Vietnam AI Economy 2025 report, AI is set to become a core engine of Vietnam’s economic growth, with the country’s AI economy projected to reach US$120–$130 billion by 2040.

To prepare for the goals, Vietnam is developing a digital and IT workforce. With more than 150 universities offering IT-related programs, the country produces over 60,000 graduates each year, fueling the talent pipeline for future innovation.
