Vietnam treasures trade cooperation with Russia

Secretary of the Party Central Committee Truong Thi Mai yesterday met with Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov and discussed measures to intensify traditional friendship and increase the efficiency of trade cooperation between the two nations.

They agreed to regularly share information and coordinate at multi-lateral forums. Vietnam appreciates Russia’s support for a policy of strengthening ties with Vietnam pursued by the Russian President and Government, Mai stated.

The Vietnamese official also met Sergei Zheleznyak, Deputy Secretary of the United Russia Party’s General Council and State Duma Deputy Speaker. They exchanged experience in building the ruling Party in each country to contribute to fostering the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

In her working session with Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov, the two sides discussed issues related to state management of people’s organisations as well as the situation of the Vietnamese community in Russia.

The Russian side spoke of Vietnamese people’s integration into the country, believing that the community will contribute more to the bilateral time-honoured friendship and all-round cooperation. The Vietnamese official also participated in a gathering of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Russian Veterans’ Union.

During these meetings, Mai informed the hosts of Vietnam’s situation and its stance on several regional and international issues, including the East Sea issue. Russian veterans and members of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association showed their support for Vietnam’s stance of addressing the East Sea issue by peaceful means with respect to international law.

While in Russia, Mai also met the Vietnamese Embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the country. She affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an integral part and a driving force for the development of the nation.

At the meeting, Mai stressed the friendship between the two nations, which has helped boost the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. Vietnam remembers the great support of people of the former Soviet Union, including Russia, during the struggle for national independence, construction and defence, she noted.

The official expressed her hope that the two associations will continue to work with the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association and the Association of Vietnamese War Veterans to connect the two countries’ people, promote cooperation between localities and businesses and educate young generations about the relationship.
