Vietnam, US strengthen cooperation in dairy production

Active trade promotion and efforts from each enterprise have contributed to greater effectiveness in economic cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

Close cooperation between leading Vietnam’s dairy firms and those from the US would bring quality products and trade opportunities for all.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Evans Knapper shared the view during a visit to Vinamilk’s dairy plant in Cantho on April 8, expecting greater cooperation between the two sides once the pandemic is subdued.

At the site, Knapper expressed his impression of the strong development of Vietnam’s dairy industry, including the growth of Vinamilk amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to supporting policies from the Government, active trade promotion and efforts from each enterprise have contributed to greater effectiveness in economic cooperation between the two countries, Knapper said.

In this context, Vinamilk has maintained its status as one of the leading dairy companies in Vietnam which maintain close cooperation with its US partners via the imports of machinery, input materials, and cow from the US, as well as investment in dairy processing plant there in the past years, Knapper said.

Vinamilk currently boasts a network of 16 diary plants and 14 farms of international standards across the country and abroad.

The Cantho plant, put into operation in 2021 in an area of over 2 hectares, is specialized in the production of various dairy products with a capacity of up to 202,000 tons per year.

The Director of the Vinamilk dairy plant in Cantho, Pham Minh Duong, said despite the severe pandemic impacts in 2021, the plant continued to maintain the operation to provide tons of fresh milk every day for Cantho and neighboring cities and provinces.

“Even when there was a spike in the number of infection cases, the plant was still able to keep production capacity at 40-50 million products per month,” Duong said.

CEO of Vinamilk Nguyen Quoc Khanh stressed the company’s vision of taking Vietnamese dairy products to international markets, for which Vinamilk has substantially invested in modern technologies and equipment for its plant and farms networks.

Vinamilk currently stands among the world’s top 40 dairy firms in terms of revenue,  exporting to 57 countries and territories, including major markets such as the US, Japan, South Korea, and China, for an accumulated revenue of over US$2.6 billion.

In the US, Vinamilk is operating the Driftwood dairy plant in California and imported a total of $306 million worth of technologies and cows from the US during the 2019-2021 period.
