Vietnam plans to draw 18 million tourists in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 16%. To reaching that target, the country has focused on improving the local tourism quality.

On the occasion of the World Tourism Day on September 27, the National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency signed an agreement on applying advanced technologies and e-commerce applications on tourism promotion, Vietnam News Agency reported.

VNAT is encouraging Vietnamese tour operators to promote more aggressively domestic online tourism transaction platforms as those from Vietnam are losing ground to world online market places and booking applications, including Airbnb, Agoda, Tripadvisor, among others.

Thereby, the cooperation between two aforementioned government bodies will help promote the healthy competitive environment for domestic and foreign online trading platforms as well as further ensure rights for tourists who use the platforms to traveling, booking, among others.

The two sides also decided to jointly pilot “Vietnamese card – A national card” for domestic tourists which offers solutions for tourism services and helps promote the e-payment in tourism, trade, transportation among others.
