Preparations are now in hand for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly to be held in Hanoi from March 28 to April 1, 2015, according to the State-level steering board for the regional gathering.

It was reported at a meeting in Hanoi on July 29 that the organising board has developed plans for personnel, protocol, communications, logistics, security and health care to welcome approximately 1,300 delegates from 160 countries and territories.

The IPU meeting will assess the parliamentary role and sustainable development beyond 2015, focusing on peace, conflicts, economic crisis, human rights, and prevention of domestic violence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Assembly Committee for External Relations are busy working out a schedule for sidelines meetings of foreign delegations.

At the meeting, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked sub-committees to carefully draw up the working agenda for the gathering, especially the Hanoi communiqué, while promoting Vietnam as a peace-loving nation in the eye of foreign delegates.

The Assembly needs to highlight the tremendous achievements Vietnam has made under the leadership of the Party and State, as well as the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in contributing to global peace and development, he said.
