Vietnamese engineers create website on coronavirus in 12 hours

The idea of building a Vietnamese website on coronavirus stems from the fact that the world's infection map does not have a Vietnamese version.

A team of five Vietnamese engineers worked for 12 hours without break to build a website Corona.kompa. about the new coronavirus ai to help local residents detect and fight fake news, VnExpress reported.

According to Vong Thanh Cuong, the team leader, the biggest obstacle when building the website is to connect the Data Science team in Silicon Valley and the development team in Vietnam.

"When the WHO officially declared the global emergency, everyone was on holiday. The time zone difference between Vietnam and the US made it difficult for executing the project. However, all members try their best to work together," Cuong said.

The idea of building a Vietnamese website on coronavirus stems from the fact that the world's infection map does not have a Vietnamese version. Vietnamese could not update the number of nCoV cases and regions with infected patients. More importantly, the fake news about the disease on social networks in the country keeps spreading.

The highlight of Vietnam's nCoV infection map is the news bar. Users could not only keep track of the number of nCoV cases, but also quickly get updated on the latest information from official and credited sources related to the epidemic, avoiding the confusion created by fabricated news on social networks.

Besides the real-time global infection map, the website also has an additional map on coronavirus infection in Vietnam. All are customized for Vietnamese users to follow easily.

After a week, not only in Vietnam, users from many other countries around the world also access the website to update information.

The project also received many good reviews from domestic technology circles. Hung Tran, Founder of Got It, appreciates the website’s official summary on the outbreak.

"In this situation, official and credited source of information is extremely important, to keep the people calm and accurately assess the situation to have good plans and deal with the outbreak instead of being bewildered. The solution of the tech people is sometimes very simple but practical," Hung wrote on his personal page.
