Vietnamese firms develop AI-powered 5G traffic cameras

The partnership between Viettel High Tech and Bien Bac will bring AI-powered 5G cameras into use, improving the traffic in Vietnam.

THE HANOI TIMES ─ Viettel High Tech, a subsidiary of telecom giant Viettel Group, and Bien Bac JSC on July 1 partnered to develop and commercialize AI-powered traffic cameras with 5G connectivity.

The two companies will collaborate to create a comprehensive “Make in Vietnam” traffic monitoring solution that integrates Bien Bac’s management software and system integration platform with Viettel’s advanced hardware and AI algorithms.

The partnership aims to improve the management of traffic flows in Vietnam and serve domestic needs while exploring opportunities to expand into international markets.

With more than 25 years of experience, Bien Bac is a pioneer in smart traffic solutions, implementing projects in over 30 provinces and cities across Vietnam and integrating systems and developing tailored camera management software to enhance traffic safety and public security with flexible and locally suited requirements.

Viettel High Tech’s AI traffic cameras are designed to detect, analyze, and handle traffic violations with high precision and efficiency.

The system can recognize objects, behaviors, license plates, and complex traffic scenarios, even with vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 250 km/h.

The cameras can detect a wide range of violations, including running red lights, lane violations, illegal parking, speeding, and traffic sign violations.

In addition, they provide real-time data on traffic flow, density, and speed to support authorities in managing and optimizing urban traffic systems.

The integration of 5G enables the cameras to transmit high-speed data in real-time to central monitoring systems, significantly improving responsiveness and situational management.

Importantly, the cameras offer visual streams with embedded analytical layers such as license plate numbers, violation types, vehicle speeds, and traffic density, shifting the role of surveillance from passive screen-watching to active behavioral analysis.

The project is considered a practical step toward mastering core technologies and increasing the global competitiveness of Vietnamese-made products as outlined by the government in its strategy until 2030.
