Vietnamese pangasius exporters to US enjoy zero tariffs

Vinh Hoan’s export sales to the US have seen a strong recovery in recent months.

Vinh Hoan Corporation and Nam Viet, two Vietnamese exporters, enjoy a zero anti-dumping duty on pangasius from Vietnam to the US market in the 16th review (POR16) of the US Department of Commerce (DOC).

The final results of the POR16 were announced by the DOC for Vietnamese pangasius shipments imported to the US from Aug 1, 2018 to Jul 31, 2019.

Vinh Hoan Corporation was the only mandatory respondent of the POR16 and levied a duty of US$0.00 per kg. Nam Viet was also subject to a tariff of US$0.00 per kilo, as a separate rate respondent (not individually examined and having the weighted average rate of the mandatory respondents).

At the end of 2020, the DOC’s preliminary results showed that both Vinh Hoan and Nam Viet could be subject to a tariff of US$0.09 per kilo when exporting to this market. The remaining 27 companies subject to this review have not established eligibility for a separate rate, and are considered to be part of the Vietnam-wide entity for these preliminary results.

Vinh Hoan accounts for the largest share of pangasius export to the US and operates four out of 13 factories approved by the US Department of Agriculture as per the catfish inspection program.

Vinh Hoan’s export sales to the US have seen a strong recovery in recent months as the disease is under control after the US rolled out its vaccination program.
