Vietnamese scientist wins L’Oréal fellowship

Junior research fellow Dr Tran Ha Lien Phuong has won a fellowship from global cosmetics firm L`ORÉAL for her work related to discovering a cure for cancer.

Dr Phuong from National University in HCM City will receive US$40,000 to further her research, which she can choose to spend on support vital to developing her career including childcare, travel or scientific equipment. 
This is the first time a Vietnamese scientist has been selected for the prestigious award, which will be presented to Lien and 14 other young female scientists from around the globe on March 18 at a ceremony in Paris.

The programmeis a partnership between the L’Oréal Corporate Foundation and UNESCO.  Annually since 2000 it has granted fellowships to 15 young women researchers in the Life Sciences at the doctoral or post-doctoral level, whose promising projects have been accepted by a reputable institution outside their home country.
Three Fellows are selected from each of the following regions: Africa, Arab States, Asia & Pacific, Europe & North America, and Latin America & the Caribbean. Each Fellowship is worth a maximum of US$40,000 over two years, and fellows must return to their country of origin after the Fellowship.
