Holders of ordinary passports with a validity of at least six months are subject to a visa-free stay shorter than 90 days. The visa waiver will not apply to those wanting to stay for more than 90 days or wanting to stay in the foreign country to do business.
Previously, Vietnam allowed tourists from 23 countries and territories to enter and stay in the country without a visa. Since February 1, the Government has started the pilot issuance of e-visas for travelers from 40 countries in Asia, Europe and America.
Meanwhile, visa exemptions for visitors from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain who intend to stay in Vietnam no more than 15 days, was be extended from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018. The news was announced by a representative of the Vietnamese Government. Exemptions apply to all types of passports and immigration purposes if the travelers can meet all required conditions of Vietnam’s legal regulations.
The visa exemption policy for citizens from five Western European countries was put on trial from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016, and then extended by an additional year to June 30, 2017. This is the second time the policy has been granted an extension. E-visas are now accepted at 28 border gates, including eight by air, 13 on land and seven on the sea.
In addition, a total of 9.11 million passengers arrived at Vietnamese airports in July, up 12.2% over the same period of 2016, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). Of the number, international arrivals accounted for 2.34 million, up 2.1% and domestic visitors at 6.77 million, up 16.2% over the same period last year.
