Vietnam's Golden Bridge tops The Guardian most striking pedestrian bridge list
The Guardian has announced its list world’s most striking pedestrian bridges and the Golden Bridge (Cau Vang) in Da Nang is on it.
The Guardian, a UK daily newspaper, has just named the Cau Vang bridge in Da Nang the number one destination with the latest in a line of weird and wonderful structures around the world.
Golden bridge held up by two enormous stone-coloured hands has opened in the Ba Na hills, near Da Nang in central Vietnam. It is the latest in a series of statement footbridges around the world.
The bridge, opened in June, is 150 meters long and 1,400 meters above the sea level, with views across the green mountainscape. It took just under a year to construct.
“Golden follows in a line of unusual footbridges, seen everywhere from Iowa to India: structures that are noteworthy as architectural statements in themselves, rather than accessories for an already popular location,” The Guardian wrote.
On the list, the Golden Bridge in Da Nang is followed by the Fan bridge in Paddington Basin (London, UK), the Lucky Knot bridge in Changsha (China), the Umshiang Double Decker Living Root bridge in India, the Moses bridge in Netherlands, the Most Ljubavi bridge in Serbia, an the Webb bridge in Melbourne, etc.
Since it opened to the public in early June, 2018, the Golden Bridge on the top of Da Nang’s Ba Na Hills has been very inviting to visitors from both home and abroad thanks to its special architecture.
The bridge, with its huge hands and the boundless and majestic scenery that offers, has become in a very short period of time one of the most beloved and photographed places in Vietnam.
Earlier, Airbnb, a online marketplace and hospitality service has announced its annual list of the world’s top 10 destinations for 2018, in which Da Nang ranked fifth with a surge in bookings of up to 255%.
The municipal tourism sector saw impressive growth during the first half of this year, receiving about four million visitors, up 29.4% year-on-year, of which 1.6 million were foreigners, up 47.1%, according to the department.
The city hopes to welcome nine million visitors by 2020, with 30% being international holidaymakers, and rake in VND31.5 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue.
