The US-based content delivery network service provider Akamai Technologies recently revealed the report pointing out that Vietnam’s Internet speed was ranked 12th in the Asian region.
The Republic of Korea (RoK) reached the first place in the region, followed by Japan and Hong Kong (China).
According to the report on State of the Internet, Vietnam’s average Internet connection speed in the third quarter of 2015 was 3.4 Mbps.
The RoK gained the top spot in the global ranking of Internet connection speed. Vietnam was ranked 97th globally, ahead of the three other Asian nations, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.
Akamai Technologies said broadband adoption must get the connection speed of 4 Mbps or more.
By the third quarter of last year, 31% of Vietnam ’s connections met the standard. Meanwhile, the rate in China was 33%, and 10 and 14% in the Philippines and India, respectively.
At "high broadband" speeds, or more than 10 Mbps, the rate in Vietnam was only 0.6%, ranked 71st globally.
