Vietnam’s int’l phone calls double in 2008

The Hanoi Times - The Vietnam Telecom International (VTI)’s international voice calls in 2008 hit a record high of nearly 1.47 billion minutes, doubling the previous year’s figure.

According to VTI’s report, the figure included over 1.21 billion minutes of incoming calls, a two-fold increase, and 257 million minutes of outgoing calls, a 50 percent increase.

The military telecom corporation Viettel’s also saw a high international call traffic, with about 500 million minutes of calls to Vietnam and 95 million minute of calls abroad.

Telecom experts attribute the achievements to the drastic reduction of fees for international calls. Both VTI and Viettel cut their charges o­n international calls by between 30-55 percent in the third quarter last year.
