Vietnam's tourist destinations busy on National Day holiday

The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho welcomed more than 76,000 tourists during the three-day National Day holiday (September 2-4), up 60 percent year-on-year, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The holiday makers flocked to the My Khanh Tourist Village, the Southern Truc Lam Zen Monastery, the Cai Rang Floating Market and the Ninh Kieu Wharf, among others.
The local tourism sector has made all-out efforts to ensure security, safety and environmental hygiene for tourists while organizing a range of entertainment activities during the holiday.
The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre also served over 100,000 holiday-makers on September 2-3, doubling the figure recorded in the same period last year.
Of the total, domestic tourists made up more than 60 percent, said the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
During the holiday, about 50,000 vacationers flocked to the central province of Binh Thuan, including 3,000 foreigners, mostly from Russia, Thailand, Germany, the Republic of Korea and the US.
Major tourist destinations in the central province of Quang Nam like Cham Island (Cu Lao Cham), the world-recognized My Son Sanctuary and Hoi An ancient town, and the Phu Ninh Lake eco-tourism site, also drew a large number of both domestic and international tourists on this occasion.
National Day is a national holiday in Vietnam observed on September 2, commemorating the Vietnam Declaration of Independence from France on September 2, 1945. It is the country's National Day.
September 2nd, 1945 is an important landmark marking a major turning point of Vietnam. It was an establishment day of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and is also considered the National Independence Day of the current Socialist Republic of Vietnam. President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, officially claiming the independence and sovereignty of Vietnam from France and Japan.
