Accordingly, Viettel will test technical features and possibility to deploy telecommunication infrastructure using 5th generation mobile technology - IMT 2020. Viettel is allowed to pilot 5G in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in no more than 73 locations.

Along with this license, the telco will be able to use the frequency bands of 2575 - 2615 MHz, 3700 - 3800 MHz and 26500 - 27500 MHz for the test according to the national radio frequency spectrum planning and management regulations.

In the testing period, 5G customers will not be charged.

After a year of testing or at the request of the Minister of Information and Communications, Viettel Group will have to return the licensed telecommunications resources. It will also be responsible for investment efficiency, and regularly report the test results or at the request of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Earlier, at the conference on deploying the 2019 tasks of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the ministry said that it is promoting 4G frequency licensing and testing 5G services, aiming to commercialize 5G services in 2020.

Besides, the ministry will also study the roadmap to find the right time to shut down 2G or 3G services.
