Viet Nam will help Mozambique to research and develop food crops in the 2013-2017 period.
The agreement will cover the trainning of Mozambican researchers and the building of food crops models that could improve rice productivity, reduce rice imports, and experiment with models for soybean, sweet potato, and vegetables.
It also aims to ensure food security and improve the income of Mozambican farmers.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat emphasized that the Vietnamese Government appreciated the agricultural cooperation with Mozambique on various fields, including exchange of gene sources, development of rice cultivation models, and rice cooperation.
Mozambican Ambassador to Viet Nam Gamiliel Sepulveda Joao Munguambe said he believes that the project will contribute to developing Mozambique’s agriculture while ensuring food security and improving Mozambicans’ living standards.
