The Hanoi Times - The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) announced on Feb. 16 that it is now providing telecom services to more than 50 million telephone subscribers.
In January alone, VNPT added 1 million new subscribers to its books, including 900,000 mobile phone users.
The group also saw an additional 54,000 internet subscribers over the past month, bringing its total number of internet users to 1.4 million.
VNPT is expected to reap revenues of VND60 trillion (US$3.43 billion) this year by developing its traditional core services, such as landline and mobile phones and broadband internet.
However, VNPT representatives noted that 2009 is set to be a challenging year for domestic telecom businesses as they will face a wide range of difficulties arising from the global financial crisis and the country’s opening up of its telecommunications market to foreign companies.
