Vocational study paves the way to success!

While many students choose university for their future, Nguyen Thanh Luan has decided to go to college. This was an uncommon decision but has brought success.

In order to secure vocational training and career development, in 2011 after completing his military service, Nguyen Thanh Luan started studying the air conditioning system field at the Hanoi Industrial Vocational College (HNIVC). “I did not take the university entrance exam because I could not determine my outcome. Moreover, studying in university mainly means learning theories, which may be hard to immediately get access to jobs. I chose the air conditioning system major since the field had just opened previously. Furthermore, every summer, people have the demand to use the air conditioning. On the other hand, if I had pursued Information Technology which was hot at that time, I would not have obtained a job right after graduation,” Nguyen Thanh Luan shared.

In his first year studying the major, Nguyen Thanh Luan took a part time job in an internet shop, also due to his passion for information technologies since youth. In his second year, with in depth knowledge of the major as well as experience with the field, Luan started to help set up air conditioning for free. One year after, he realized his capability to work independently, so he worked on his own. Everything worked that way until Nguyen Thanh Luan boldly established NTL Vietnam Trading and Service Co., Ltd. Specializing in installing, repairing, maintaining and trading air-conditioners and camera at the beginning of 2017.

“With my new established company, I have a legal status, which is more beneficial for me to get bigger works. Before, I mainly installed air conditioning for individual households,” – Thanh Luan stated. As an alumnus of HNIVC, when achieving success for himself, he does not forget to assist the next student generations through prioritizing to hire employees from here. As a result, employees of NTL company are mainly from the college which used to be the second home for Luan. “I apply my same old style of working. An employee will earn the basic wage set up by the Government, plus percentage of each product. The average salary of my employees is from 7 to 10 million VND per month.”

When asked about his suggestions to the vocational programs, which can helps students to get jobs right after graduation, Nguyen Thanh Luan said: around 80% amount of knowledge can apply to the job, the college only need to increase time for student doing the internship in enterprises, so that they will get more experience and can get used to the job right away. However, as students only study in the college for 2.5 years, the college can reduce time slots for some conditional subjects and increase time for their majors. In addition, students who is meticulous at work will be fine.

At present, as many students with average score in the graduation exam are hesistant in whether to choose university or college, Nguyen Thanh Luan advised: “If you are really good, then you can go to the university. However, if your academic level is around average, then vocational school should be a good choice. If you still want to go to the university, you may not catch up with others of higher academic level, so it will be very hard to look for job”.

After graduation and get a job, you can still pursue your study in university. Right now, Nguyen Thanh Luan is studying at Thai Nguyen University, majoring in electronics. By studying, this young man from Hung Yen will be equipped with more knowledge for the job he is doing, expanding his network and getting more friends.
