More than 100 tonnes of Vietnamese watermelon are shipped to the Chinese market everyday through the Lao Cai International Border Gate.
Despite difficulties in exporting watermelon experienced at some other border gates, Lao Cai has seen a stable export volume of over 100 tonnes daily since the beginning of this year’s season.
Nguyen Quyet Chien, Head of the Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Office, said his office always creates the best possible conditions for farm exports. It takes only 5-10 minutes to complete procedures for shipping one batch of watermelon to China.
Since January 2014, more than 9,000 tonnes of watermelon have been exported to the Chinese market via this border gate, he reported.
At present, southern provinces are just now entering the harvesting season. Customs offices are coordinating with relevant agencies to facilitate the cross-border export of the fruit.
