Widespread heavy rains continue to hit Vietnam this weekend
Since early August, heavy rains in the north and the south of Vietnam have caused a great deal of damage.
Heavy rainfall is expected to pound Vietnam in the next two days, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Some areas of Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bai provinces and the northwest region are expected to see 100 to 200mm of rain accompanied by strong winds, lightning and whirlwinds.

The common rainfall in the northwestern region and the northestern region, encompassing Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen provinces, ranges from 40-70mm/12 hours, even more than 100mm in some places.
The center warned of flash floods, landslides and inundation in the mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Bac Kan, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang and Vinh Phuc.
Flash floods, landslides and flooding are also predicted to hit Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Nam provinces, the center said.
Due to the impact of the southwest monsoon, the Central Highlands and the southern region are forecast to experience showers, thunderstorms and even heavy rain, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Since early August, heavy rains in the north and the south of Vietnam have caused a great deal of damage, losses have been estimated at VND6 billion (US$260,000), according to the National Steering Committee of Natural Disaster Prevention.
To cope with heavy rains and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, the national committee asked its sub-committees and local governments to set up measures to respond to rain, floods and landslides and normalize people's lives.
