Young expats shine at festival in Europe

A festival for Vietnamese youths and students in Europe featured various cultural and sports activities in Choisy-le-Roi, a city in the suburbs of France’s Paris, on August 27-28.

The event, named “Festival LUMOS” with the slogan “Shine as you are”, attracted about 500 participants from Vietnamese students’ associations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland and France.

The festival’s highlight was Jeunes Talents Europe – a show that featured dozens of performances showcasing the young Vietnamese’s singing, dancing and other talents.
At a discussion held as part of the festival, French historian Patrice Jorland and Vietnamese journalist Vo Trung Dung updated the students on the East Sea situation, Vietnam’s efforts to protect its maritime sovereignty, and issues arising after The Hague tribunal issued a ruling on the Philippines’ lawsuit against China’s territorial claims in the East Sea.
Le Xuan Tuan, head of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in France, said the festival, the second of its kind, connected young expatriates in Europe.
It also aimed to promote the participants’ patriotism, said Nguyen Thanh Vuong, Director of the Vietnamese Culture Centre in France.
The first festival was held in Berlin, Germany, in 2015.
