This year's theme, 'Applying AI for Smart Solutions,' encompassed two focused discussions on the impact of Artificial Intelligence technology across various fields.

On March 23rd, the 4th International Conference on Information Systems and Networks (ICISN 2024) took place, hosted by Swinburne Vietnam, gathering participation from top experts and leaders to exchange and share the latest advancements and applications of AI.

Dr. Le Anh Ngoc, Director of Swinburne Innovation Space and chair of the conference, stated, “ICISN has become an annual forum connecting the academic world with the industry both domestically and internationally. This year's theme, 'Applying AI for Smart Solutions,' encompassed two focused discussions on the impact of Artificial Intelligence technology across various fields such as technology, business, education, environment, communication, digital marketing, retail, etc., drawing attention from numerous businesses and individuals from abroad.”

ICISN 2024 attracted nearly 200 research submissions, with 95 papers accepted for publication in the Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (LNNS) series by the reputable Springer with a Scopus index. This year's research contributions came from 10 countries and featured many scientists and speakers with extensive experience teaching at prestigious universities worldwide such as Dr. Alex Stojcevski - Dean, School of Science, Computing & Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia; Professor Pham Van Cu - from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST); Professor Pradeep Kumar - Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, and more.

Moreover, over 50 leaders from major corporations and businesses such as FPT, Vingroup, Panasonic, 1C Vietnam, Vinalink, KPMG, VNPT, IBM Vietnam, etc., were present to discuss the impact of AI technology on various aspects of life and debate solutions to optimize AI and enhance business performance.

The rewarding outcomes of implementing AI in real-world scenarios

Kicking off the conference, Dr. Hoang Viet Ha, Director of Swinburne Vietnam, emphasized, “The world is witnessing rapid changes thanks to the development of AI and Data. Therefore, both scholars and businesses need to find solutions for a future where humans and AI can co-create the world.”

Following the same spirit, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien - Vice Chairman of the FPT University Council, brought to the conference a unique speech entirely written by Chat GPT. “I believe everything I will say today can be done better by AI. Therefore, I can only say one thing: AI is the future of technology. With AI, we can make Vietnam and the world a better place,” he said.

Dr. Alex Stojcevski - Dean, School of Science, Computing & Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology Australia, raised questions about the role of education in the AI technology era. According to him, AI can completely replace practical skills that businesses need such as communication, technology, and therefore both lecturers and students need to understand the nature, operation, and role of it to apply seamlessly and effectively in practice.

Presenting about the practical applications of AI at the conference, Dr. Wray Buntine - Director of Computer Science at VinUniversity, emphasized the importance of Chat GPT through applications that support teaching, interaction between teachers and students, and changes in the content of traditional subjects. “In the near future, we may encounter completely AI-driven classrooms,” he said.

Mr. Ngo Thanh Hien - CTO & Country Manager, Technical Sales & CSM at IBM Vietnam also shared the applicability of AI through Watsonx - IBM's next-generation AI platform providing self-service access to high-quality, reliable data, allowing users to collaborate on a single platform where they can build and improve both new, general AI models and traditional machine learning systems.

Discussing the future, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - Representative of Panasonic Vietnam talked about the company's sustainable development vision. “With AI, Panasonic can optimize and innovate available energy sources like Kinari - an environmentally friendly plastic or Perovskite solar panel. Besides, we also use AI to build and operate a completely automated factory management system,” he stated.

The future of AI: Challenges and opportunities

The discussion session "Applying AI Technology for Smart Solutions" was an opportunity for experts to express their viewpoints and share diverse perspectives around practical issues related to the development of the AI era.

The discussion sessions are an opportunity for experts to share perspectives and propose solutions for businesses.

During the discussion about the advances and opportunities AI brings to the future, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai - CEO of AVOCA AI believed AI had brought breakthrough solutions for businesses through analysis and proposal of personalized content for users.

When questioning the future of AI, experts agreed that Vietnamese businesses are quick to adapt to new technologies. However, sustainable development still faces many limitations as most businesses depend on databases and technology from abroad.

Evidence of this includes electric companies or large banks with many headquarters and branches taking a long time to update their databases before applying because AI - specifically Chat GPT, still faces limitations in writing Vietnamese. Moreover, a significant number of technology companies are almost entirely dependent on foreign AI systems, leading to the necessity of changing core products if the market fluctuates.

According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Hanh, CEO of Edtech Agency, this phenomenon is like "clinging to an iceberg" - technology businesses are dependent on a highly risky market whose future no one can predict.

It is known that Hanoi University of Industry will be the host of the upcoming International Conference on Information Systems and Networks (ICISN) in 2025.
