Hanoi and UK officials affirmed the high potential of cooperation between the two sides.
Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung met with the UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, Ed Vaizey on Octorber 5 to discuss ways to enhance cooperation.
At the reception, both sides discussed ways to boost two-way trade and cooperation. Accordingly, Ed Vaizey lauded the Hanoi’s support to cooperative activities between Vietnam and the UK, including the upcoming UK Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi in early November.
The UK official also highly appreciated Hanoi heading to build innovative education, as well as become a smart city.
Speaking highly of the Vietnam –UK ties in diverse areas, Hanoi Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said the city is honored to be among three Vietnamese cities to join the ASEAN smart city network. Hence the city hopes to have further cooperation with the UK in this area.
In terms of education, Hanoi has initiated and expanded the application of Cambridge International A Levels program at some secondary and high schools, with the aim to enhance the education quality and broaden its students' chance of studying abroad, Chung specified, while suggesting the UK would support high quality English teachers for the city in the time ahead.
The chairman also touched on a Hanoi-UK trade promotion conference, planned to be held in June 2019, as an effort to boost the trade ties between the two sides. Chung expressed hope that Hanoi and the UK would increasingly cooperate in the trade sector. Hanoi would facilitate in every means for UK investors, he stressed.
Agreeing with the Hanoi Chairman, the UK official affirmed his willingness to support Hanoi by connecting it with leading UK experts, investors in the mentioned fields.
