Praising Hanoi’s socio-economic achievements over the past times, Enrico Letta emphasized that the selection of Hanoi as the host of the dialogue reflects the close ties between Vietnam and Italy. It also shows his country’s great trust and cooperation with Vietnam, as well as with the capital city of Hanoi, the former PM added.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said he believed the cooperation between Italy and Hanoi will continue to thrive as the European Union - Vietnam free trade agreement is set to take effect next year.

Chairman Chung also said that the third high-level dialogue on ASEAN-Italy Economic Relations is a chance for Italian businesses in Hanoi as well as Vietnamese companies to meet and explore opportunities in both countries.

Hanoi will actively support and ensure all conditions for the dialogue to be a success, Chung stressed.

He proposed that the two sides organize a Vietnam-Italy cultural and art exchange in Hanoi to introduce the special cultural features of both countries to the Vietnamese public and foreign tourists.

For his part, Enrico Letta said the dialogue will become a turning point to strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and the EU, bring numerous big businesses to Hanoi. This ambitious cooperation will help Vietnam become Europe’s gateway to Southeast Asia.
