Hanoi and Toulouse work together on restoring Old Quarter

On February 21, Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee, Nguyen Duc Chung hosted a delegation of the city of Toulouse (France) led by its Vice Mayor Jean-Claude Dardelet who is on a visit in Vietnam.

Hanoi plans to facelift the 36 streets of its Old Quarter in the coming time and hopes to receive support from the French city of Toulouse in this work, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.

At the meeting, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, Nguyen Duc Chung and Vice Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Claude Dardelet shared information on a number of joint cooperation projects between the two cities, especially a project to preserve and promote the value of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The project was aimed at promoting the Thang Long Citadel's heritage, especially among Toulouse dwellers to lure them to Hanoi.
In addition, Hanoi and Toulouse agreed to work in the field of art, traditional handicraft, such as a project to disseminate heritage values of Lan Ong herbal street.
Regarding the preparation for the France - Vietnam Decentralization Cooperation Conference in April 2019,
Vice Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Claude Dardelet said that the organizers have prepared five thematic sessions including anti-climate change, education, heritage, especially the topic of economic cooperation between provinces of Vietnam and France.
Emphasizing the participation of Hanoi leaders at the France - Vietnam Decentralization Conference, the vice mayor of Toulouse said within the framework of the event, the First Promotion Conference will aim to give French people, organizations and businesses more insight into Hanoi's potential. In addition, within the framework of the conference, the organizers will hold an exhibition about ancient bricks and tiles of Hanoi and Toulouse.
Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung emphasized the need of continuing Toulouse’s support in the Thang Long Imperial Citadel project. He also agreed and asked Toulouse to continue supporting the facelifting work of the 36 old streets of Hanoi.
At the France - Vietnam Decentralization Cooperation Conference to be held in April 2019, Hanoi’s art troupes will perform at the event as well as Hanoi cuisine will be showcased, so that the people of Toulouse will have a deeper insight into Hanoi's culture and cuisine, Chung said.
