Hoan Kiem District sees apparent changes in urban order and security

According to Hoan Kiem District`s assessment, in the first ten months of 2016, the assurance of traffic safety, urban order and security, environmental sanitation in the district has achieved apparent changes.

Implementing the year of order and urban civilization, ensuring traffic safety in 2016, Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee directed sectors, levels, political and social organizations to focus on piloting walking areas around Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity according to the plan of the Ha Noi People’s Committee. In particular, the district Police in collaboration with People’s Committees of 18 wards removed 226 complicated points of urban order, traffic safety. The district checked and handled 779 violation cases with the total fine of VND476.7 million.

Especially, since September 1, 2016, Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee has tightly coordinated with relevant departments, sectors to set up overall and detail plans on ensuring conditions for walking areas, such as: ensuring security and order, dividing traffic flows, holding art activities and so on. 

In addition, the Division of Urban Management in cooperation with  Hanoi One-Member State Limited Liability Company for Traffic Works to install 35 prohibition signs,  instruction boards for traffic order in walking areas around Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity. The Division also coordinated with the Municipal Departments of Transport, Police to set up 78 parking plots for visitors. The district continued organizing three teams to inspect the piloting implementation of pedestrian streets. 

In the coming time, to better ensure traffic safety, urban order, environmental sanitation in the area, the district People’s Committee will ask People’s Committees of 18 wards to continue well propagandizing traffic rules, regulations of the Municipal People’s Committee in managing, using roadways, pavements, environmental sanitation, regulationss for handling violation; encouraging local people to carry out cultural life in association with the movement of environmental protection; publicizing results of violation handling, its directions relating to urban order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation on radio systems; maintaining environmental sanitation campaigns on every Friday, Saturday in agencies, enterprises, schools, hospitals, residential areas; consolidating the operation of self-management forces in wards to timely detect and remove obstacles of urban order, environmental sanitation in localities.

Besides, the District Police will ask functional forces to strengthen inspection and strictly handle violation cases relating to traffic safety, urban order, environmental sanitation; cooperate with the Division of Urban Management to ensure urban order, traffic safety in pedestrian streets as well as to promote inspection at parking plots. The Division in collaboration with Hanoi Green-Park Limited Company will plant more trees in the area; review building works; urge People’s Committees of wards to remove illegal roofs, advertisements.

The Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake areas will carry out the maintenance of  pavements; enhance inspection of urban order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation in areas around Hoan Kiem Lake. The District's Fatherland Front Committee, political and social organizations will boost communication to encourage members, laborers, local people to well implement regulations on ensuring urban order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation in association with the movement “All people unite to build cultural life”; continue maintaining and expanding “green-clean-beautiful” streets in the coming time.

The capital city is expected to record an annual growth rate of 10 percent in tourist arrivals. The tourism sector is expected to generate VND120 trillion ($5.4 billion) for the city by 2020, when Hanoi plans to welcome 30 million tourists, including 19 percent foreigners. Hanoi will create extra walking streets next month for pedestrians to enjoy the Old Quarter while promoting culture and culinary delights of the 1,000-year-old city. Hanoi Old Quarter was listed among the best 95 attractions in the Capital in 2014 by the US ’s premier travel website TripAdvisor.
