“We are looking forward to Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit this spring,” Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said during the launching ceremony of 45th anniversary of Vietnamese-French diplomatic relations (1983-2018) in Hanoi.
The upcoming high-level state visit proves that both sides respect the bilateral relation, he noted. The last visit of a Vietnamese Party General Secretary to France took place 13 years ago.
There is still room to enhance co-operation between Vietnam and France, Lemoyne said, mentioning three symbolic project, including the newly-built French school in Hanoi, a healthcare cluster, and the French house in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hoang Binh Quan, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Affairs, noted that the two nations have great expectations regarding the evolution of traditional bilateral ties as well as the ASEAN-EU ties. France committed to supporting Vietnam in enhancing comprehensive ties with the European Union (EU), while Vietnam promised to back France and the EU to tighten ties with the ASEAN.
The official logo of the 45th anniversary of these Vietnamese-French diplomatic ties was also unveiled at the ceremony. Designed by an 8-grade student of the French International School in Hanoi, the logo would be used throughout 2018.
Lemoyne is the first minister-level official under French President Emmanuel Macron’s government to visit Vietnam this year.
In Hanoi, he met the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and co-chaired the Vietnam-France high-level economic dialogue with Vice Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong. In Ho Chi Minh City, he would meet the city’s mayor Nguyen Thanh Phong.
