At the launching ceremony, delegates washed their hands with soap which is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading illness. According to World Health Organization (WHO), handwashing with soap is an affordable "do-it-yourself" vaccine that effectively prevents disease.

Jointly organized by the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD) and People’s Committee of Chuong My District, the event aims at raising public awareness on the importance of protecting the environment and saving water resources to reduce damage caused by climate change, contributing to protecting the health of children in particular and the whole community in general.

Hanoi always pays much attention to protecting the environment and providing clean water. It is identified as an important socio-economic indicator of the city. Statistic showed that about 8.65 percent of the rural population in the province was able to access to clean water while 94.85 percent of the rural households had sanitary toilets and facilities by the end of 2016.

The national week will take place from April 15 to May 15. It can be extended until June 5, and mixed with the nation's big festivals (the Liberation Reunification Day on April 30 and the International Workers’ Day on May 1).
