Hanoi to extend operation time of pedestrian zone on National Day holiday
Hanoians and foreign visitors will have a chance to enjoy many kinds of events during the National Day at the pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake, which runs until midnight Monday September 3.
Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee has just announced that they will keep the pedestrian street around Hoan Kiem Lake open before, during and after the National Day (September 2).
According to the committee, the walking zone around Hoan Kiem Lake and proximities, including the Old Quarter, will be open from 7:00 pm on August 31 to the midnight of Monday September 3.
The pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem lake and the Hanoi Old Quarter are popular destinations for Hanoians and tourists. The walking area around Hoan Kiem lake spreads over 11 streets, which are Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Lai, Le Thach, Dinh Le, Nguyen Xi, Trang Tien (from Ngo Quyen to Dinh Tien Hoang), Hang Khay, Le Thai To, Hang Trong (from street Joseph’s Cathedral to Le Thai To), Nha Tho and the Cathedral square. The streets are closed to traffic from Friday night through Sunday mid-night.
On this occasion, Hanoians and foreign visitors will have a chance to enjoy many kinds of art and performance events at the pedestrian zone in Trinh Cong Son street, Tay Ho district. The walking street, some 900m long, is a fitting tribute to its namesake, late musician Trinh Cong Son (1939-2001), a celebrated Vietnamese musician, songwriter, painter and poet.
The number of foreign tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 2.44 million in the first seven months of 2018, a year-on-year rise of 20.5%, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
The number of tourists from most of the Asian markets saw growth in the period, including Taiwan (China) up 52.9%, China (up 33.7%), Malaysia (up 31.8%), and Singapore (up 21.8%).
In 2018, Hanoi expects to serve more than 25.4 million visitors, including 5.5 million foreigners, and gross some VND75.78 trillion (US$3.33 billion) in revenue.
