Vietnam boosts ties with the Dominican Republic ahead of diplomatic milestone

President Luong Cuong met with outgoing Dominican Ambassador to Vietnam Jaime Francisco Rodriguez on March 20 and stressed the need to strengthen economic ties. Both sides highlighted growing bilateral cooperation and pledged to implement agreements signed during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit in 2024. President Cuong invited President Luis Abinader to visit Vietnam and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations (July 7, 2005 - July 7, 2025).

Deputy PM pays tribute to historic Vietnam-China revolutionary site

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung visited the historic headquarters of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League in Guangzhou, China on March 20. The site, associated with President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities in 1924-1927, symbolizes the friendship between Vietnam and China. Dung expressed gratitude to local authorities for preserving the site, emphasizing its role in educating future generations.

Vietnam strengthens ASEAN projection in Argentina

Vietnam has assumed the rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Argentina. Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Ngo Minh Nguyet chaired the 42nd regular meeting on March 19 to discuss plans to promote ASEAN's presence in Argentina. ASEAN ambassadors endorsed Vietnam's proposals to strengthen economic and political ties, with upcoming events including ASEAN Day at the Argentine Congress and cultural exchanges.

Danang Airport equipped with automated immigration system

Danang Airport has become the first airport in Vietnam to introduce an automated immigration gate (Autogate) system designed to streamline entry and exit procedures. The system reduces waiting times and enhances security with biometric technology. With full automation from check-in to boarding, Danang Airport is setting a new standard for smart airport operations in Vietnam.

Vietnam-Laos deepen cooperation through exchange of young border guards

The 4th Vietnam-Laos Young Border Officers Exchange Program, held on March 20-24 in the central province of Quang Binh, brings together nearly 70 officers from both countries. Activities include legal education, scholarships for disadvantaged students, cultural exchanges, sports competitions, and tree planting. Delegates will also visit the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap and historical sites.

Vietnam's total foreign trade hit $786 billion in 2024

Vietnam's total trade turnover reached $786.29 billion in 2024, up 15.4% from 2023, with a surplus of $24.77 billion. The country led Southeast Asia in trade growth, supported by key exports such as agriculture, seafood, and manufacturing. Vietnam's 15 free trade agreements and strong foreign direct investment inflows boosted exports and strengthened its role in global supply chains.

Hoi An fortifies coastline with $45.6 million protection project

The Hoi An Coastal Protection Project aims to combat coastal erosion and ensure sustainable development in the central province of Quang Nam, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Hoi An Ancient Town. With a budget of $45.6 million, the project protects 3.2 km² of land, 1,300 households, and tourism infrastructure, and enhances climate resilience and economic stability for the region.

International student football tournament kicks off in HCMC

The 2025 International Student Football Tournament will be held from March 22 to 30 at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City. Six teams, including two from Vietnam and four from Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia will compete in a group stage, followed by semifinals and finals. The winner will receive $6,000, with additional awards for fair play, top scorer, and best player.
