2016 Spring book street kicks off in Hanoi

Hanoi People`s Committee opened a book street at Le Thach street, Hoan Kiem district on February 10, the third of the Lunar New Year.

The event displayed with 20 stalls features books on the culture and history of Hanoi, Vietnam’s socio-economic development, the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.

Participating in the book street, visitors will have an opportunity to meet famous writers, receive a lot of meaningful gifts from publishers, booksellers, calligraphy works free of charge and enjoy Vietnamese tea on the occasion of 2016 Tet festival.
In addtion, the book street will include a number of artistic programmes such as recitals of spring poems, demonstrations of the Japanese art of origami (paper folding) and a music gala expected to attract young people.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said the book street was held with the aim of creating the space for the reading culture of local residents.
The event is not only a healthy, useful and practical cultural activity for numerous readers, it also make an opportunity for the city’s publishing units to collaborate and share experience with domestic and international partners.

It shows the studious tradition, patriotism and national pride of the city's residents in particular and the Vietnamese in general.
Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung stressed that this will be an annual event in Hanoi, and suggesting that the organising board should prepare to hold the next event better in order to serve the people whenever the traditional Tet holiday come.

The book street runs through the eighth day of the Lunar New Year, or February 15.
