A number of senior officials have been brought to justice regardless of retired cadres, officials in law enforcement sector, or armed forces generals.
More than 60 Vietnamese officials of central and provincial agencies have been disciplined over the past three years since the 12th Congress Party of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the record high ever, CPV's Secretary General and President Nguyen Phu Trong has said.
The disciplined state cadres include five incumbent members of the Party's Central Committee, three of them have been expelled from the committee, Trong said at the closing remarks of the ninth plenum of the committee on December 26.
Since the beginning of the Party's 12th Congress in January 2016, the Party and state have taken drastic measures to fight against corruption and prevent wrongdoings in order to make the political system strong and righteous, he said.
In 2018, a number of senior officials have been brought to justice regardless retired cadres, officials in law enforcement sector, or armed forces generals. Many of them have been convicted under criminal charges, he noted.
Tat Thanh Cang – deputy Party chief in Ho Chi Minh City – demoted
On the same day, the committee ousted Tat Thanh Cang from the Party Central Committee and stripped his position as deputy head of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term, for “serious violations”.
Cang is blamed for infringing regulations on public land sales and mismanagement. He signed different decisions, including those to build four arteries in Thu Thiem peninsula. The roads with total length of 12 kilometers and an investment of VND12 trillion (US$521 million) are left unfinished after five years of construction, causing losses to the state budget.
Firm determination
Mentioning Cang’s case, Trong said that the discipline is heartfelt but heavy punishments must be applied to ensure the integrity of the entire political system and the rule of law for the long-term national interest.
He affirmed that the Party and state will continue the path to remove unqualified cadres out of the state bodies to meet the people’s aspirations.
