60th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day
On the morning of October 10th, Central Party, National Assembly, President, government, Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee jointly held a solemn ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of capital’s liberation at the National Convention Center.
Attending the event were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Chairman of Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan together with comrades, representatives of the government, many ministries, agencies and provinces in the country, leaders of Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi city, local representatives and excellent citizens of the capital and people.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of Party and State, President Truong Tan Sang awarded Ho Chi Minh Medal the Party, government and Hanoi’s people.
The Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi sent good wishes and thanks to the leaders of the Party and State, the Vietnamese heroic mothers, fellow soldiers all over the country and overseas compatriots for supporting the capital’s development.

Party Secretary Pham Quang Nghi stressed that in this sacred and solemn moment with grateful joys and emotions, we respectfully commemorate President Ho Chi Minh- the great founder, beloved leader of Vietnamese people, the national liberation hero. We also remember dead soldiers, comrades, fellow who heroically sacrificed to the revolutionary cause of the Partyfor the cause of national liberation, building and defending the nation.
Reviewing the glorious historical traditions, Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi affirmed that after August Revolution in 1945 when Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established, from slavery to become the masters of the country , Hanoi people want nothing more than to live in peace, independence, freedom, focusing on building a prosperous life and happiness.

60 years ago, when the last colonial soldiers withdrawed across Long Bien Bridge, our army and people controlled over Hanoi. In the morning of October 10th, 1954, the Military Committee and the city of military units divided into several troops marching into Hanoi. More than 40 thousand people welcomed the troops with flag and joy greeting their victory.
