8th “Red Sunday” event to collect from 18,000 and 20,000 blood units

A key festival of “Red Sunday” blood donation campaign that was organised by Tien Phong newspaper, took place on January 17 in 8 provinces and cities across the country.

According to the organising board, the 8th “Red Sunday” event aims to collect from 18,000 and 20,000 blood units.

All the blood will be dedicated to support treatment, emergency patients who need blood during the Tet holiday.
Earlier, the 7th “Red Sunday” event in 2015 collected nearly 18,000 blood units.
Addresing the event held in Hanoi on January 17, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated its humane meaning and effective results. 
So far, after 21 years launching the movement of voluntary blood donation nationwide. Especially, since 2000, implementing the Decision of the Prime Minister on "Mobilizing and encouraging voluntary blood donation of People", the movement has been paid attention by ministries, agencies, unions, committees and local governments and achieved many remarkable results.
In 2015, the country received over 1.1 million blood units from voluntary blood donation movement, meeting about 60% of blood for emergency treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister Phuc asked all levels and sectors to further promote voluntary blood donation movement of people, as well as disseminate and organise blood donation campaign safely.
It is neccessary to hold more effective programmes such as "Red Spring Festival", "Red Journey", he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested the agencies, organisations and individuals continue to pay attention, to create favourable conditions for noble programmes as the “Red Sunday” blood donation campaign.
It is known that the “Red Sunday” blood donation campaign was organised in 22 cities and many universities and colleges across the country.
Previously, the campaign held in HCM City collected 2,700 blood units. 
The campaign runs through January 28, aiming to collect from 18000-20000 blood units.
