Hanoi prioritizes resources in pursuit of children's goals

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has released a plan with the theme "Prioritizing Resources to Achieve Goals for Children" in response to the Month of Action for Children 2025 in June.

The month-long campaign with the participation of different stakeholders aims to raise awareness and encourage collective action for the well-being of children. It will also promote child protection and care, with a focus on engaging different stakeholders and addressing child abuse and violence.

A series of activities for children will also be held for a safe summer vacation and a safe environment for children.

Municipal authorities are encouraged to ensure that 100% of children with special needs receive gifts on International Children's Day, June 1.

In a broader move, the city has launched the "Action Plan for Children 2025" from now until the end of the year.

All districts are asked to improve recreational facilities in their areas and organize free swimming lessons for needy children.

The month's opening ceremony will be held on May 28 at the Hanoi Children's Palace, and will include screening for children with congenital malformations and congenital heart disease, painting with the message "For Our Safety," free swimming lessons, and vitamin A distribution for children.

The Hanoi Department of Health is tasked with mobilizing social resources for underprivileged children, providing them with gifts and scholarships, and paying special attention to children who are malnourished, disabled, have congenital heart disease or other serious illnesses requiring long-term care, or have been victims of abuse or violence.

Hanoi's policy

Hanoi is focusing on strengthening supervision over the implementation of   the Law on Children and ensuring sufficient and equitable financial resources for children, especially those in their early years.

According to Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi City People's Committee, the Action Month for Children is one of Hanoi's action programs to concretize Uncle Ho's teaching, "For the sake of ten years, we cultivate trees; for the sake of a hundred years, we cultivate people."

"For years, Hanoi has always focused on implementing policies related to the protection, care, and education of children, especially children with special circumstances in the area," she said.

Ha also called on Hanoi residents to enthusiastically respond to the Hanoi 2025 Action Month for Children with concrete, practical, and meaningful deeds.

On this occasion, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has also called for efforts to create a safe and abuse-free environment for children. According to Michaela Bauer, Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Vietnam, the country is a pioneer in child development both regionally and globally, as it was an early ratifier of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
