The Construction Ministry said the funding is estimated to build student housing nationwide in the 2016-2020 period worth about 9,000 billion VND (406.3 million USD).
Under the national housing development Strategy from 2016-2020, Vietnam plans to meet housing demand for about 80% of students at universities, colleges and vocational schools across the country.
The Government has offered incentives to promote housing projects for students since 2009.
The housing programme for students is one of the country's key housing programmes apart from those for low-income earners, workers at industrial zones or people who contributed to national defence and construction.
According to the ministry, in the 2009-2015 period, the Prime Minister approved 95 housing projects for students. Up to now, 85 projects have been completed, accommodating about 200,000 students.
Almost half of the 9 trillion VND funding will be spent to finish the 10 ongoing projects. The rest of the funding will be for more housing projects, expected to accommodate 100,000 students.
