Ambassador desires for growing Vietnam-Australia ties

Vietnamese ambassador to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi has voiced his hope that with joint efforts and determination of the two countries, Vietnam-Australia relations will grow and thrive in the future.

Nghi made the statement at a February 27 ceremony to present his credentials to Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce.

The Vietnamese diplomat conveyed best regards and wishes from President Truong Tan Sang to his host while expressing Vietnam’s wish to further promote the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Australia across a variety of fields.

The ambassador spoke highly of Australian Foreign Minister’s recent trip to Vietnam as a good opportunity for both nations to bolster cooperation in trade-investment, defence-security and education-training.

Nghi also applauded Australia for maintaining its ODA for Vietnam and its new Colombo plan.

Quentin congratulated Vietnam on its significant achievements in socio-economic development and recalled her deep impressions on her visit to Vietnam in May 2011.

She said she is delighted at the strong development of comprehensive relations between Vietnam and her country over the last 40 years, demonstrated by the official establishment of the comprehensive partnership in 2009, enhanced cross-cultural exchange and diverse activities for celebration of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic ties.

The Australian Governor-General said she hopes by implementing the 2014-2016 action programme in the wake of the 2010—2013 programme, bilateral relations will grow and flourish across the board.

She suggested Vietnam engage in Australia’s new Colombo plan aiming to strengthen people-to-people exchange, particularly young generations.

Quentin believed that ambassador Nghi will make greater contributions to consolidating and developing the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership.
