Chairman of AmCham Vietnam Michael Kelly has expressed hope that the United States will rejoin the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in the future.
In a document prepared for the Midterm Vietnam Business Forum 2018 on July 4, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Vietnam Michael Kelly said hopefully will return to the CPTPP in the future to tap on trade in the region.

“AmCham is pleased that the CPTPP is moving forward. We hope that the US will be able to participate in this agreement in the future and we are pleased that President Trump recently ordered his trade advisors to take a fresh look at the agreement.
If the President is serious about reengaging in TPP discussions, this is good news for American and Vietnamese companies, investors, workers, farmer and consumers,” said Kelly.
He noted that US-Vietnam commercial relations remain very important for both countries – and for the business people of both countries and AmCham supports a robust TIFA process in the meantime.
President Trump withdrew the US from the TPP in January 2016 just a few days after his inauguration. The 11 remaining nations decided to move the trade pact forward and eventually signed the CPTPP in Chile on March 8 this year.
