“Angel Face”, Vietnamese film to compete at 2018 Cannes Film Festival
The film invested and co-produced by Vietnamese artist Ly Nha Ky with title “Angel Face” will vie for prize at the Cannes Film Festival which will be held in France from May 8 - 19.
The film festival will not only bring Vietnamese cinema closer to the international friends but also help popularise the country’s tourism and culture.
After vying for the Un Certain Regard (A Certain Glance) award, which is presented to international films that tell stories in non-traditional ways, “Angel Face” will be screened at cinemas worldwide soon.
“Angel Face” was directed by merging director Vanessa Filho and stars Marion Cotillard, the only actress to ever have won an Academy Award for a French-speaking role.
Ly Nha Ky, who invested in and co-produced the movie, expressed her happiness to learn that her first international film project had been a success. The Vietnamese businesswoman has worked on the project since her meeting with Marc Missonnier, a well-known producer in the global entertainment industry.
Ky is also known for her work as a regular sponsor for the Cannes Film Festival’ Cinéfondation, which provides financial support to young talents in international cinema. The former model and actress runs a company that sponsored Vietnam’s promotional campaign at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Besides, “Glorious Ashes” directed by renowned Vietnamese director Bui Thac Chuyen will be present at the most prestigious film festival in the world. The film has been adapted from two short stories, namely Cui Muc Troi Ve (Floating Rotten Wood) and Tro Tan Ruc Ro (Glorious Ashes), by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu. It features the fates of three women in a poor rural area and the means they adopt to keep their men. The film is among 15 projects selected by the festival’s organising board to be introduced in “The Altelier” programme in the Cannes Film Festival.
